1. DESCRIPTION
Degassing agent in tablet form for aluminium and its’ alloys.
2. PROPERTIES
Physical state: Solid, as 100 gr tablets, nasty odour.
Composition: Grain refiner salts,hexachlorethane based.
Density: 1.8 gr/cm ³
3. OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Moderately hyroscopic. DEGASIN 25 permits to remove hydrogen picked
up by aluminium and its’ alloys during melting. It eliminates the danger
of porosities in castings caused by hydrogen entrapped as molten metal
solidifies. It also favours absorption of oxides and impurities suspended
in the melt by the dross.
4. METHOD OF USE
Despite of the application of an appropriate flux cover during melting
to limit the contact of the melt with air and furnace gases, aluminium
and its’ alloys tend to dissolve some hydrogen. Therefore, it is necessary
to degas the metal before casting. The operation is better to be carried
out with the melt at 740-750 °C. It must be remembered that the hydrogen
pick-up shows a sudden increase at temperatures over 760 °C .The
rate of application is 0,20-0,30 % of the molten metal weight. Sometimes
it is necessary to use higher additions. It is suggested to monitor the
hydrogen concentration with appropriate equipment. The required quantity
of degassing tablets has to introduced into the melt in two parts which
will be plunged and held at the bottom of the melt by a perforated bell
which has been dried adequately by preheating. Clean the bell after use
and dry it by preheating before each use.
5. ADVANTAGES
DEGASIN 25 removes hydrogen picked up by aluminium and its’ alloys
during melting. Therefore, it eliminates the danger of porosities in castings
caused by hydrogen. It also favours the absorption of oxides and impurities
suspended in the melt by the dross.
6. PACKING
In cardboard boxes of 25 kgs.
7. STORAGE
Store in a dry place in the original sealed packing.
8. SAFETY
Subject to moisture pick up. Do not heat. Avoid contact with skin and
inhalation of the fumes evolved.
