EXTRUSION DIE STORAGE SYSTEM

Aluminium extruders handle hundreds or thousands of dies to extrude
aluminium profiles. Those dies are cleaned and stored in an archive until
the next use. Our automated storage system helps extruders to manage their
dies for archiving and retrieving when needed. The storage system is very
effective, capable of storing thousands of extrusion dies in a smaller
volume, each die is stored in its' unique address, eliminating human error
to locate the dies for storing and retrieving.
The storage system called “Die-O-Matic” features a “honeycomb” type storage system.
Cycle time for the “picker” is under one minute for the retrieving or positioning of a single die which allows for an extremely high turnover of dies in the plant. The maximum speed of the “picker”, chosen by the customer, is up to 40 metres per minute for the lengthwise speed, 20 metres per minute for crosswise speed and a lifting / lowering speed of up to 30 metres per minute.
As well as supplying the framework and robot “picker” we are also supplying all the software needed for running the storage system which is to be integrated into the complete system used by the customer.
The main reasons for investing in this type of storage system are:
- improved die storage conditions – dies are not left lying around and are less subject to contamination and marking
- less time is required to store and retrieve dies than in a manual system
- improved traceability of dies allowing information from the presses and die shop to be incorporated in the main database giving the complete “history” and
“life” of any die
- the hi-rack die storage system is space saving with respect to other systems
- this type of system is safer than manually operated systems and greatly reduces the risk of accidents caused by handling dies (foot injuries and
other)
- the system being completely automatic is intensively labour saving and reduces the chance of human error
